While on the subject of subs, when I click that little "subscribed" link at the top of my page, it takes me to another that tells me the time left on my current subscription. But next to that it used to say "nice", and now it says " "

Do any of you guys see something different? I know I shouldnt be suprised by these little things DA is doing, but still am... Seems like they're trying every subtle method they can to milk their members.

I've been working my butt off this weekend trying to integrate a forum, and it looks like I'll be done within an hour or two. Of course I'm doing this at the expense of studying, but what the hell. It's a STUPID mid term. Not like one of those SMART mid terms... >_>

And I'll continue to do so for the length of time you bought the sub for ^^ (I feel like a dope asking/ suggesting this, but I may as well throw it out there)

Time permitting, I'll be generating some sort of sequential artwork based on the story line I've been developing... I dont draw nearly as much as I'd like, so I hope this will give me some excuse to pick up a pencil and put down the wacom. (not that I'll stop painting of course)

Rant coming...
A few of you may have seen the mangaRevolution ads I've been paying for on deviant art... And I'd love to continue, but it seems as though the powers-that-be at DA decided to change from a cost-per-thousand impression price model, to a cost-per-click price model. Not so bad, I suppose, I mean it's their right to do whatever they want. But how retarded is it to act like you're giving us artists a discount when you're actually ripping us off?

Here's their pricing:
$20.00 for 500 clicks
$50.00 for 1,250 clicks
$100.00 for 2,500 clicks
$250.00 for 6,250 clicks
$1,000.00 for 25,000 clicks

What does that mean? Well, you pay 4 cents for each click on your advertisement. 4 cents!!!! On each package!!! Google charges near that, and so does Yahoo, both of which have very sophisticated methods of making sure you don't fall victim to click fraud. So how is this some kind of break for members trying to sell prints or promote non-profit art websites? How the f'ing hell are us dirt-poor artists supposed to make any sort of head-way with an advertising package that costs $1,000!?!?!?

Sorry deviantArt, but on this I hope you fall flat and change back to what you had going before. At least before it made sense. And at least before, the larger package you bought, the greater discount you were given... God only knows why the $20 package equates to the EXACT SAME rate as the $1000 package.

And I haven't posted anything in forever! Thanks though, I'm happy people like my work enough to keep visiting my page. Though I certainly don't feel worthy of half-a-million page views.

Contest:
Sadly, it doesn't seem that too many people are interested in the Cintiq contest. Which sucks hard, because without enough people participating, I'll have to spring for the Cintiq myself instead of nabbing a sponsor like I had hoped. If the participation doesnt increase it means that this contest will only be a one-time deal, which once again totally sucks since I wanted to host this contest 2-3 times a year.

But for some reason [rant coming], the same people who somehow thought they'd have a chance winning a drawing contest threw their hands in the air when they found out it was a promotion contest. And why is that? How many of you have ever actually WON a drawing contest? I know I haven't... So when a contest arises like this one that awards hard work and community activity, why aren't more of you jumping on it? Especially since the end result makes mangaRevolution a great website for artists to learn and grow? I mean... at the very least I'd think people wouldn't mind giving it a shot by posting contest linkage in their forums signatures, DA signatures, journals and stuff. Hell, most of you post links there anyway, big whoop to add another... And those of you who are good at art: is it so difficult to make tutorials?

Let me just say that if it were me (and I'm a little annoyed that it isn't me), I'd be all over this thing like a fly on ####. Points for linkage is easy. And points for tutorials is kickass, especially since MORE points are rewarded for each progressive tutorial you donate.  And if you don't have art skill, you can donate tutorials that focus on technical aspects of art: digital tools, how to use them, how to customize, how to work an airbrush, etc... It's all art-related, and it's all useful. So even if you don't have loads of artistic skill to flaunt, you can still be a competitive participant.


Anyhow, rant over. I'm having a bad day so forgive me. Thanks again for the 1/2mil page views everyone! Once I get some extra time I'll get more art posted ^^
